WALLINDER, Skyler Damian Ross
March 27, 1997 – April 18, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing Skyler Wallinder on April 18, 2021 in Cochrane Alberta at the age of 24. Skyler was born in Kamloops BC on March 27, 1997, grew up in Calgary and Cochrane.
Skyler was an adventurous, creative and active person. He graduated from Bow Valley High School in Cochrane, AB after which he attended the SAIT culinary program. He worked in a few different restaurants before exploring Australia for a year where he ultimately ended up doing charity fundraising work, which gave him a great sense of fulfillment. On return from Australia, he returned to his passion for cooking, where he could explore his sense of personal expression and creativity. He felt very strongly about mental health, especially within the culinary field and was always active in supporting his friends and peers.
Growing up, Skyler was a competitor in middle distance running, rugby, wrestling, downhill ski racing, coaching younger alpine ski racers and speed skiing where he achieved 150 km/h and was ranked second in the world in his class in 2016.
Skyler is survived by his parents, Brad and Nina Wallinder, his brother Jacob Wallinder, and grandparents Roy Queen and Heather Wallinder. Skyler is predeceased by his grandmother Isobel Queen and grandfather Donald Wallinder.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to an initiative that is in development in Skyler’s memory for the benefit of mental health in the culinary field. https://gofund.me/81b520dc

I am so grateful to have seen the Wallinder boys out cruising the slopes of Nakiska, just days ago! I was so very happy to see the three of you, catch up with a quick lift line chat and watch you all rip down from the top of Gold… Skyler bring up the back, with get skill!
You are in my thoughts! Love, Alysia

Our deepest sympathies to Skyler’s family. Words cannot express our sorrow for your loss. He was our son’s coach during the 2014-15 ski season. Training days at Nakiska were good, but there was nothing better then heading to Sunshine for a free ski day with Skyler and the other coaches. He showed the athletes how to have fun, do the big jumps, and everyone always left with a smile and good memories. The traits of a great coach. Rest in peace Skyler.
