TELFER, Evelyn “Lyn” (née Harrison)

April 4, 1952 – August 27, 2023

On Sunday, August 27th while the summer sun was shining and the birds were singing outside her window, Lyn Telfer passed away peacefully at the age of 71, with her family by her side after a short but very courageous battle with cancer.

Lyn was born on April 4th, 1952 in Marathon, Ontario. She met the love of her life, Ken Telfer in 1968. They later married on November 13, 1971 and together raised their daughter Trina. In 1979 Lyn, Ken and Trina moved to The Pas, Manitoba where they made their home for the next 43 years and where she met many of her closest friends. Lyn was a hard and conscientious worker who was employed at the University College of the North for 26 years in various secretarial positions, retiring in 2007 as the Executive Assistant to the President. Lyn and Ken again moved in 2022 to Cochrane, Alberta to be closer to Trina and their two granddaughters Ainsley and Brooke.

Over the years Lyn enjoyed curling, aerobics, snowshoeing, walking, reading and watching all the Hallmark movies. Like her dad, she never passed up a good buffet or a great sale. She also learned to love fishing with Ken and would boast about her many Manitoba Master Angler awards. Ken and Lyn were avid motorcyclists, travelling hundreds of thousands of kilometres on their Harley Davidsons doing runs with friends and family from coast to coast in Canada, the United States and locally, especially around The Pas. She also enjoyed travelling with Ken after her retirement and enjoyed many winters in Mexico. The family will certainly miss her baking skills as she made the absolute best butter tarts, apple crisp, chocolate cake and Grandma Telfer’s shortbread. Lyn had a great sense of humour and kept it right to the end.

She will forever be in the hearts of her husband, Ken, her daughter, Trina , her grandchildren, Ainsley and Brooke Prokopow, her sisters, Patricia Maltais (Leo), Cynthia Russell (Bob), Barbara Draper (Barry), her sisters-in-law Lorna Froste, Rhona Telfer, brother-in-law, Richard Telfer (LaDawn) and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Stuart and Mary Harrison, her mother and father-in-law, Ella and James Telfer, and her son-in law, Allan Prokopow.

A thank you goes out to all of Lyn’s friends who sent such kind thoughts and prayers, to those who came to visit and especially Susan Ford who spent time here taking care of Lyn and us. To Dr. William Solyom, the kind and dedicated Doctors, Nurses and HC assistants at the Tom Baker Cancer Center and the Special Services Building in Calgary.

At Lyn’s request there will be no funeral service. An entombment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or the Foothills Medical Centre, Special Services Building or a charity of your choice.
