TANNAS, Donald Ole

Mr.-Tannas-2
May 12, 1925 – June 17, 2013

We say goodbye to our beloved father who passed away peacefully in his sleep. He had 63 wonderful years with the love of his life, Lily until she predeceased him in 2011. Together they raised 6 children on the farm in High River, later moving to the ranch west of Water Valley where Don ranched for over 40 years. He loved company, whether it was family or friends. Don always enjoyed a good laugh, and was a true stubborn Norwegian. Like all his sons, the more intense the debate, the more carpet he wore out. He was active in Cochrane Lakes Gas Co-Op, the Lutheran Church, I.D. of Bighorn and a founding councillor in the M.D. of Bighorn. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 205 – 11 Street N.E., Sundre, Alberta, on Tuesday, June 25th, 2013 at 1:00 pm. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Don’s memory may be made directly to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, 100, 119 – 14 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6, or www.heartandstroke.ab.ca .

I have fond memories of Don the rancher and great debater. Even with his passion for debating the health of a cow or “big world” issues, he always had time for direct conversation with young kids, even me. I won’t forget him and I know his family and friends will miss him dearly. My sympathies and prayers are with you.

    Sincerely, Paul Chell

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you gather to celebrate Don’s life. I have many great memories of visiting the Tannis ranch in every season. Whether it was branding time, the rain or sun of the summer or even a snow storm on New Year’s eve we were always welcomed. As a young child I did not necessarily understand the topics of debate but they were clearly important! The process usually started at the table and then the issues were literally brought to the floor to be put through the ‘paces’. A healthy mix of humour and serious consideration was volleyed around the room. I give thanks for the Tannis Family memories of my formative years. May God richly bless the gathering around memories and connections to Don and the Tannis Family!

    Sincerely, Ed Chell
