STILLER, Gerta Alwine Charlotte
July 12, 1930 – January 29, 2023
With the Angels holding her close, our beloved Mother and Oma, passed away peacefully and rose to Heaven on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 92 years of age.
Gerda was born in Barmke, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1954 where together with her husband Fritz, they built a beautiful life with their children.
Gerda enjoyed gardening and farming, working as a Therapy Aid, and her many years volunteering at the German Canadian Club, where she received an award from the Alberta Government for her contributions. She was very creative and loved to sew, knit, and do needle point. She was also an incredible host as she loved to cook. Gerda also loved her time being involved with Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Red Deer.
Gerda will be deeply missed by her daughter Christine; her grandchildren, Tara (Rob), Tyler (Crystal), Adrienne (Andrew), Derriston, Grier, Tatijanna (Jaibe), Halliese, Natalie, and Kurt (Marni); son-in-law Wes; her son Martin and his family; and many great-grandchildren, extended family in Germany, and her many friends through her church and the German Canadian community in Red Deer. She is predeceased by her husband Fritz, son Dietmar and daughter-in-law Kathy, and daughter Tanja.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Cochrane Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (73 George Fox Trail, Cochrane, AB)
If so desired, donations may be made to a charity of choice supporting Cancer, Diabetes, or Heart and Stroke organizations.
