SMITH, Cody Shane
May 23, 1994 – September 7, 2022
With heavy hearts, we say a final goodbye to our beloved Cody Shane Smith with his sudden passing on September 7, 2022. Cody was born on May 23, 1994, to parents Tammy Howard and Ralph Smith in Calgary, Alberta.
From a young age, Cody was an active boy who enjoyed outrunning his teammates both on and off the soccer pitch. His love of the outdoors and nature became his passion. He hiked many miles of trails in the nearby Rocky Mountains and collected leaves and twigs as reminders of his day’s journey.
During his school years, he was known as “Cassy” short for Casanova because he loved chasing the girls around! He also was a star football player, excelled at track and field and was an all-round awarded athlete.
You could always have an educated discussion with him about the merits of protein shakes and working out at the gym. He recently took a love of gardening and would spend hours planting seeds and poking around the flower beds with the bees.
He loved all animals but cats were always his favourite. His pet cat, Luna, gave him unconditional love and comfort. She is now in the loving hands of Cody’s sister, Courtney.
Cody was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, David Hurst, paternal grandmother, Judy Smith and paternal grandfather, Grant Smith. He is survived by his mother, Tammy Howard and father, Ralph Smith (Kelly Pagenkopf, Ashley and Brandon), his sister Courtney Smith (Oscar Wronski-Luna(cat)) and his grandmothers Patricia Hurst and Paula Smith. Also, his aunty Shauna Baty (Tina Tse and cousin Jordan) aunty Lisa Parsons (Steve Parsons-cousins Ariele, Chad and Adam), Nancy Hurst (cousins Summer and Senna) and aunty Delayna Martin.
A Celebration of Cody’s Life will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Springbank Heritage Club (244168 Range Road 33 Calgary, AB T3Z 2E7).
The family asks that donations be made on behalf of Cody to Canadian Mental Health Association https://cmha.calgary.ab.ca/ or AARC (Alberta Adolesence Recovery Centre) https://www.aarc.ab.ca/.

We have been friends with the family for a very long time and have known Cody since he was born. He was always a very energetic kid full of life. In 2016 he was a car salesman for Hyundai and sold us a new car. He was so polite and knew his stuff, he could have sold ice to an Eskimo, he was that good (probably got it from his dad). To hear of his passing was very hard to comprehend. He was such a bright light! Our condolences to the entire family and we emphasize to stay strong in your grieving process. Kurt and Liz
Allan and I were always pleased to have Cody in our home and on outings. We appreciated his fun-loving good nature and willingness to help out. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tammy, Ralph, Courtney and the rest of Cody’s family and friends. His beautiful smile will be with us going forward.

Your loss is profound, and my entire family shares in your grief. At a time like this, asking you to have courage seems like a poor effort at comfort, but it is with courage that we all go on and cope with the unimaginable.
Go softly into night Cody, and may you rest In peace, surrounded by the tranquil surroundings of the Nature you so obviously loved..
Courtney, I am so sorry for your loss. I send my deepest sympathies to you and all of your family. Hold your memories of Cody close.
