Mary Louise Shaw

March 27, 1931 — July 12, 2022

March 27, 1931 – July 12, 2022

On Tuesday July 12, 2022 Mary Louise Shaw passed at her residence at Origin Spring Creek in Canmore, Alberta. Mary endured a long and valiant battle with COPD in addition to the numerous pains accruing to 91 years of living.

Mary was the first born of Clem and Margaret Sheehan in Beiseker. She graduated from the University of Alberta with an Arts Degree and spent a few years working as head clerk for Bonar and Bemis in Calgary and spending summers with Brewster’s in Banff. There she met and married local fishing guide Jimmy Shaw. Their son Lance was born in 1957 and daughter Linda in 1958. As well as raising her family, Mary also spent much of her time operating the Western Store on Banff Avenue. Lance passed in 1973 and Jimmy in 1977.

In addition to being a fixture on Buffalo Street, Mary spent time at her ranch in Cochrane where she raised cattle and was one of the first to import Texas Longhorns. During these happier times Mary was able to pursue her passion of riding, breeding and showing a few pretty good horses. She was able to travel and spend time in Mexico before making the difficult decision to move ‘to town’ settling at Origin in Canmore.

Mary will be deeply missed by her daughter Linda, son-in-law Bob Snow, her very special friends Sue and Janet, her intrepid helpers Heather and Judy, and many other extended family and friends. We are going to miss her.

A Memorial Service will be held for Mary at St. Agnes Parish, 302 Veterans Way, Carstairs, AB on Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Carstairs Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Origin at Spring Creek, 808 Spring Creek Dr, Canmore AB, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
