SCHREIBER, Ernie

December 7, 1948 – November 9, 2022

Ernie Schreiber passed away peacefully with his wife Carol of 51 years and his children by his side. Ernie is survived by his wife Carol Schreiber, daughter Shar Schreiber, son Doug Schreiber, daughter in law Shelley Schreiber, grandsons Braden and Wyatt Biggart, granddaughters Miranda Schreiber, Shaya Schreiber and Jasmine Gervais.

Ernie was a family man, always wanting to be surrounded by his grandchildren. His grandsons would affectionately call him Gramps as his granddaughters would lovingly call him Opa. Ernie loved fishing and camping with his family, taking the quality time with his grandchildren to share in fun memories and to pass down wisdom that would help them navigate life. What Ernie enjoyed the most out of everything was just being surrounded by his family and spending quality time with them.

Ernie spent his life as a Carpenter, Superintendent. He loved to teach his skills and impart his wisdom, whether or not we listened was up to us. He had a wonderful career, being a part of many projects that would turn out to be some of the most known buildings in Calgary.

    Carol, Shar, Doug and families…
We have been here before, haven’t we:(? I am so sorry for the loss of another of “the Schreiber Boys” as I always think of them. I picture my dad, Arnold, Ray and George wrapping Ernie in a big bear-hug and saying “Dammit, we didn’t want to see you soon”. I suppose they are “rassling” up there settling some old bet or another
    Love you all,
    Kim, Terry, Spencer and Kevin

Aunty Caol, Shar, Doug, and families: Words fail at a time like this, but just know how much we are thinking about you at this very sad and hard time. Uncle Ernie always struck me as the wisest of the Schreiber boys: Ray was tough, George was fearless, Arnold was strong, Fred was smart, Emil is thoughtful, Ernie was wise and patient, and Uncle David is restless and ambitious – the last one out of the house, and determined to show his louder, older brothers that he’s just as smart and tough. Can you imagine what it was like growing up in that house? Can you imagine being Grandma Schreiber having to ride herd on those boys? And looking back now on their lives, can you imagine how lucky they felt, coming from that hardscrabble life to have more than everything they dreamed of? As a very wise man once said, ” we should not mourn that such a man has died, but rather rejoice that they ever lived.”

RIP Uncle Ernie; I can hear your joyous laugh in the halls of heaven even now.
