REYNOLDS (nee PYE), Heather Ann

1946 (Orillia, Ontario) – 2023 (Cochrane, Alberta)

Heather Ann passed away peacefully on September 3, 2023, at Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, Alberta. Loving mother of Carolee (Bjorn), Robert (Irene) and devoted stepmother of Annette and Rob Roy. Heather Ann was the beloved daughter of the late Gord and Ethel Pye of Orillia, Ontario, the much-loved sister of Gord (Joan) and Sandra (Bruce) and sister-in-law of Helen (Gerry) and Dora. Dear Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Heather Ann’s grandchildren Abbigayle, Noah, Bowdyn, Brett, Nicholas, Sasha, Kiera, Kinlee, Ryder, Ashley Ann, Marcus, and Kristena brought her much joy and she kept them in her heart whatever the circumstance and whether near or far.

Heather Ann was extremely proud of her over 35 years of service as a Registered Nurse working in pediatrics and long-term care facilities in Toronto and then Medicine Hat. She loved cooking, baking, and cake decorating and spoiled her friends and family with her renowned peanut-brittle, gingerbread houses, nuts-and-bolts, and home-made chocolates during the holidays. A devout Edmonton Oilers fan, Heather Ann never missed a game and proudly wore her McDavid hockey jersey.

Predeceased by her dears: daughter Lisa, sister Meredith, brother-in-law Angelo, stepson Wayne, brother-in-law Jim and most recently her cherished grandson Kolton.

Thank you to the staff at Holyrood Extendicare, Edmonton and at Bethany Care Centre, Cochrane. And to her special companion friends Marlene and Sandy. You are her and our heroes.

Cremation has taken place and Interment and Celebration of Life will follow later. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane through the Bethany Care Foundation (https://bethany7754.thankyou4caring.org/donate) or your local charity of choice would be lovely.

As a volunteer at The Bethany, I always looked forward to seeing Heather Anne at bingo, and also when I stopped to visit her, for a
wee chat. She was such a lovely lady, with a wonderful smile.
When she proudly wore her Edmonton Oilers jersey to bingo, we would always say to her, oh you’re an Oilers fan, and her face would light up, and she would have this big smile, and would say, yes I am!

To Heather Ann’s family and friends…I am so sorry for your loss. May you hold all the wonderful cherished memories you have of
Heather Ann, close to you heart, and let them guide you through this difficult time.

My friendship with Heather Ann began when Carolee called to visit her mom at Bethany as her senior companion. It was Chapel on Wednesday afternoons and bingo after. From the moment I met this lovely lady with the biggest smile I knew I would always look forward to Wednesdays. Heather Ann sang loud in chapel when they played her favourite hymns. She always asked did you get my bingo money? Because she absolutely loved and wanted to win and when she did everyone knew about it. Her money tin was filling up
. Her favourite things were her Oilers jersey, oilers blanket, hot dogs on game night, gingerale, original werthers hard candies, chips and her family… who are such an amazing family fulfilling her ever wish.
It’s not easy to accept that Heather Ann is gone but she will continue to live in my heart forever❤️
And eating a hotdog will never be the same. I will miss you my friend.❤️

My sincere condolences to all family and friends and saddened when I read Heather’s obituary in the Edmonton Journal today (Sept 9). I recognized Heather’s photo and knew her name Pye. Heather and I went to nursing school at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital from 1965-1968. When everyone graduated we all started our careers in various places and hospitals. As I decided to join the RAF and was a nursing officer was posted to various bases it was difficult keeping in touch and meeting up with with classmates as always in a different province and no smartphones etc back then.

My thoughts and prayers are with all.

Heather was the kindest person. She always thought of others first. I met Heather through my sister-in law Helen Hall. I will always remember Heather for her kindness and of course her delicious peanut brittle. She had the biggest smile. My condolences to all the family.
