PARR, Ronald Stanley

September 7, 1930 – February 22, 2019

It is with deepest sadness and love that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Ron on February 22, 2019. Ron was born September 7, 1930 in Calgary to Stanley Parr and Katherina (Kay Schultz) Parr.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Eleanor, daughters Karyl (John), Laurie (Gary), granddaughter Tami, grandsons Marcus of Victoria,BC and Connor of Calgary, great grandchildren Akasha of Ladysmith,BC, Emma-Lynn of Victoria, BC, brother Robert Parr and family of Calgary.
Dad was a second generation Calgarian growing up in the Victoria Park area. He loved Calgary with all his heart often mentioning the good old days. On April 23, 1951 Ron “Pusser” joined the Fire Department with his good buddy Lawrence Saunders. Ron proudly served the Calgary Fire Department for 37 years, retiring as a District Chief.
In his younger days Ron enjoyed playing baseball, hockey, curling, and having a few cold beers. On August 12, 1960 he married Eleanor Grant (Henner). They were married for 58 years. Dad and Mom did a lot of camping in the summer and were snowbirds in the winter. In the later years they enjoyed going to Koocanusa. Dad loved fishing in his little boat for Kokanee trout and socializing with friends. They always did an annual drive to the coast for 40+ years to see family, always leaving at 3am as he had to be at his destination at a specific time. Ron also loved to cook and garden. His gardening specialty was his Early Girl tomatoes.
Ron was a very dedicated hard worker. He did many side jobs such as painting houses, fixing radios and carpentry/reno work. Dad was a “jack of all trades” He could fix anything and would not give up until the job was done. Dad was always there to lend an ear or help out family and friends. Ron was an all-round good guy. We love and miss you Ron/ Dad. Forever in our hearts your loving family.
As requested by Ron, no service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alberta Children’s Hospital or Alberta Cancer Foundation (Tom Baker Centre).
Arrangements entrusted to Cochrane Country Funeral Home, Lawrence (Larry) Slywka, Funeral Director Phone 403-932-1039.

I saw Ron every day at Southwood as he visited Eleanor and I visited my husband Ward. What a wonderful, friendly person he was. As he caught his breath after having walked a distance from where he parked his car, we always chatted. I hadn’t seen him recently so asked one of the staff and was told of his passing. I will miss his beautiful smile and our chatter.

Our sincere condolences to Eleanor and the Parr Family on the passing of “Brother” Ron. Laurie for us.
Laurie I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father Ron. Ron was a great friend to my dad Emil. who also was a second generation Calgarian who grew up in Victoria Park. Both of them spent many afternoons getting together to reminisce about the “good old days” and all the friends they had in common. My late aunt Alma and my late husband Doug used to join in some of those happy discussions. My most sincere condolences to your family and mother on Ron’s passing. He will be missed. My prayers are with you. Bernie Smith.
