Wolf Botin

September 21, 1950 — May 23, 2021

SEPTEMBER 21, 1950 – MAY 23, 2021

Sunday evening, May 23, 2021, Wolf took his last breath and moved on the be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Carolyn and his girls, Krissi and Annette, were there to say good-bye. He had spent 5 weeks in the ICU, 4 of them on a ventilator.

Wolf’s family immigrated to Canada from Germany when he was 2 years old, settling in Northern BC in the town of Terrace. His playground was the Coastal Mountains, the natural hot springs and the mighty Skeena River.

In 1969 Wolf joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for 25 years. His first posting took him to CFB Greenwood, NS, where he met Carolyn Demmons who would become his wife. Subsequent postings took the family to Cold Lake AB, Summerside PEI, Edmonton AB, then back to Greenwood. All these moves produced a widening circle of friends and experiences. The second posting to Greenwood really cemented Nova Scotia as Wolf’s home. He was a flight engineer for his last 15 years of service, an interesting trade which took him to 5 continents on training and relief missions.

With the advantage of a government relocation move the decision was made to come to Cochrane in 1997. Life in Cochrane has been busy. Wolf did long haul trucking around the US and Canada for 13 years and he also worked at Big Hill Towing. The girls married great guys who later joined the military and they began their own ventures in Eastern Canada.

Wolf had a lot of interests. He liked to build things. In Greenwood he built our house, plus a motorboat. He loved both pedal biking and motor biking. His Kawasaki Vulcan was primed and ready for a good season on the road with Glen and Wally. Wolf was a good problem solver and fixed most things in the house and on the cars. Besides these abilities Wolf liked music and enjoyed the symphony plus live theatre and could hardly wait for these things to open up. He was looking forward to perhaps another cruise and a little travel.

Wolf loved his family and was excited over each grandchild. He thought they all were perfect.  He was a responsible, honest, generous man. He joined Helping Hands here in Cochrane because he wanted to make a difference to others. He has loved and served God from his youth.

Left to mourn Wolf’s passing are Carolyn, his wife of 46 years; his daughters, Kristin (Sean) Wood and Annette (Cameron) Collins; his brother, Dieter Botin; his brother-in-law, Roger Demmons and niece, Susan Demmons. Also, he leaves behind 6 amazing grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Conor and Tyler Wood, and Jace, Jorden and Sadie Collins. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Helene (Schremmer) Botin; Carolyn’s parents, William and Frances (Rowter) Demmons; and sister-in-law Mary McCullough.
