Dad was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota the second oldest of 6 children. He married Sheila Black in Calgary October 12, 1951. A long time resident of Cochrane from 1960 to 2011. Don resided at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie at the time of his passing.
Dad studied at SAIT (Tech) where he earned his journeyman tickets in a Sheet Metal, and gas fitting. He owned and operated Renown Sheet Metal & Heating for many years, teaching his trade to his sons. A man of his word, Don was always ready and willing to get the job done. Grampa loved his grand kids, even before fishing! A master of anything mechanical; if there were moving parts he knew how it worked and often tried to tweak its operation.
Don was predeceased by his parents, his wife Sheila in October 2007; daughter in law Valerie, son in law Howard. Brothers; Tom, Doug, Wally, sister Betty; brother in law David, and sisters in law Joyce (Bill) & Clara.
Don is survived by his children: Judy (Larry), Sharon, Bruce, Bob (Peggy), Deb (Bryan), Shelley (Preston), 18 Grandchildren, 25 Great grandchildren and 1 Great great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Marcile (Cliff) Sheperd, sister in laws; Marilyn Wigton, Barbara (Ed) Barkley, Pat (David) Buckler, and Beth (Frank) Eedy, many nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Weedon Hall, West Corner of Hwy 22 N. & Hwy 567 on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 2:00 P.M.
