December 5, 1930 – September 16, 2013
Our beloved Dave passed away September 16, 2013. He leaves his wife of 58 years Janette, daughter Debbie, son Kevin, grandchildren Steve and Angela, brother Ray (Marilyn), sister Joan (Steve), and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was born and raised in Cochrane, spending his entire life here. He attended U of C in 1949, and graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts. He worked at the Jumping Pound Gas Plant for three years, during this time, he played fastball for leisure. After games, he would frequent Hart’s Drug Store for milkshakes. It was there that he met Janette Fenton. They were married in 1954.
With the sudden passing of their father in 1956, he and his brother Ray took over the family business, Whittle Implements Ltd., and they ran it until 1978. Dave was always most satisfied when he worked with his hands. In 1979, he purchased Cochrane Upholstery, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1998. Sport was a large part of Dave’s life whether it was hockey, fastball, curling or golf. In later years, he enjoyed the corner table at Tim Hortons with his friends.
A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 128 First Street East, Cochrane on Monday September 23rd, at 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Chinook Intercare Hospice for their compassionate care during Dave’s final days.
