J. Patricia Turner

March 7, 1931 — June 14, 2017

March 7, 1931 – June 14, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Pat Turner, mother to Monika (Wallis Smith), Cat, and Diana (Ken Kay), grandmother to Jordan and Jazmyn Kay, and aunt to sister Brenda’s children: Christopher, Derek, Jenny and James, and sister–in-law Rose Turner and aunt to Susan and Valerie, sister–in-law to Marion Foster and aunt to Anita, Ron, Rose, Cec, Marilyn, and Marina and their families.

Pat was born in Montreal to Harry and Violet (Pat) Caplan and her sister Brenda was born four years later.  Pat attended Montreal West High School, then continued her studies at Queens University and completed her B.A. Honours Degree from Sir George Williams (Concordia). Pat worked with her sister in England as a mathematician where she met and married Ralph Jack Turner, who then emigrated to Canada and moved to Montreal where they gave birth to Monika, Catherine, and Diana two years and one month apart.   Moving in 1965 to Mississauga, Ontario, Pat continued her studies earning a B.Ed. from U of T and began teaching High School English at Milton District High School. In 1980, Pat and Ralph divorced and after a short stint selling antiques in Cobourg, Ont., Pat moved west to Calgary where after a range of careers, ended as an accountant for Petro-Canada.  In 1984 Pat was most fortunate to meet and fall in love with Donald Wallace Cooper and become part of his incredible family.  They were happily together until his death in 2003.  In 2010, Pat lost her sister Brenda.  Pat spent the best part of the past three years living independently at Trinity Lodge and developed many good friendships there.

Pat’s family and extended family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all the thoughtful expressions of love and kindness by relatives and friends during their time of loss and bereavement.

Rather than a service, as per Pat’s request, the family will be spreading her ashes in the same place as Don’s ashes are to reunite them in peace. Memorial donations made be made in Pat’s name to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring teams at Rockyview Hospital and Chinook Care Center in Calgary and Larry and his team at Cochrane Country Funeral Home for all their assistance.
