February 22, 1935 – March 11, 2013
Nick passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 78 years of age. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Mildred of 54 years, sons Michael ( Margo ) and Kevin ( Barb ), as well as a circle of other relatives and friends.
Nick was born and raised in Calgary – a true born and raised native Calgarian. He was born at the General Hospital and grew up a short distance away on Second Avenue N.E. At 15, he was forced to quit school when his father died. He went to work and finished the house that he and his mother and brother lived in on Second Avenue. Nick was a very hardworking man who worked most of his adult life at Canadian Western Natural Gas Company (CWNG). His job as a pipe fabricator made him highly thought of by all who knew him and he did many favors for the crews who worked with him for his 38 years with the company. He retired from CWNG at 60 and continued to stay busy by helping out family and friends with panting projects and many other assorted jobs which needed his skills. He was a true handyman who always liked to have some spending money in his pocket along with a few lotto tickets. Nick continued to do odd jobs right up until the day he suffered a heart attack last September. He loved fishing and won many, many trophies while at CWNG. Nick enjoyed beer or two and he particularly enjoyed the sun in Mexico and Hawaii. Nick and Mildred were fortunate to have travelled to many sunny places to spend time with friends or to meet new friends. Nick became a real NFL fan over the last few years and really enjoyed analyzing his pool tickets each week – he was often a winner. He was a great man who was beloved by many close friends and family and Nick will be missed by all who knew him.
Nick’s wish for a celebration of life will take place at Houston’s Public House on Center Street North this Saturday March 16th from noon to 3:00 p.m.
