Oct. 16, 1935 – July 12, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Tonak who passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary in the company of family and close friends on Tuesday July 12, 2016. Mildred was born in Fernie, B.C. and grew up in the town of Rossland, B.C. before moving to Calgary to work in the big city in the 1950’s. She met her husband Nick in Calgary at the Stampede Corral and they were married in July, 1959. She was predeceased by her devoted husband who passed away in March, 2013. Nick and Mildred had been married for almost 54 years and had enjoyed many travels to warm climates as well as many good times with close friends. They had their favorite restaurants and were enjoyed by all who knew them. Mildred loved white wine and ice and enjoyed good food and good friends.
Mildred spent much of her adult life working in the dental field and managing offices for several successful practices. She loved the patients and her co-workers and was appreciated by all who knew her. Mildred had many close friends of different ages and from all walks of life, and she kept in very close contact with them. The last several years Mildred enjoyed doing some knitting, watching several evening t.v. shows and she was never far from her telephone where she chatted with folks for many hours. Most recently, Mildred lived in the Edgemont Retirement Home where she was well-liked by staff and residents. She was a person who made an impression on many lives and who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mildred is survived by two sons Michael(Margo) and Kevin(Barb), both of Calgary.
