1941 – 2021
With great sadness we announce the passing of Lyle Taylor on Thursday, November 25, 2021, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 80.
Lyle was born in Calgary, grew up on the family farm near Cochrane and lived briefly at Barrhead, before returning to Cochrane.
Lyle liked to keep his hands busy and his mind sharp in his retirement. He constantly had little projects on the go; always building something or solving problems – both for himself and his friends and family. He loved to travel. Lyle and Kathleen took many trips together and he ventured to Saskatchewan often to see his grandchildren and help around the farm.
Lyle was the epitome of “Hard work pays off”. He taught us all that life is about adapting to change; to live a fulfilled life, we must embrace change and welcome it. He was ardently generous with his time and energy and admirably gracious even in trying situations. His passions were his family and his friends.
He made friends easily and developed long friendships in all the areas he participated in, including within the Southern Alberta Maine-Anjou community, the Royal Canadian Legion, Cochrane Curling Club, Cochrane Old-Timers Hockey, and the Brushy Ridge, Jumping Pound and Springbank communities.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Kathleen Mahon; sons, Brad Taylor (Rupert Ngan), Russell (Lindsay) Taylor, stepchildren, Brad (Jade) Mahon, and Maureen Mahon; grandchildren Cooper and Harley, step-grandchildren Brendan, Hannah, Landis and Liam, and sister Joyce Barkley, her family and numerous relations in the Taylor and Nelson families. Lyle was predeceased by his first wife Brenda.
In a final act of generosity Lyle donated his body to the University of Calgary School of Medicine for teaching and research. This will help others in countless ways for years to come.
The family would like to thank Dr. Miller, Dr. Joshi, Nurse Practitioners Sanja and Denise, and the rest of the Cardiac Function team at the Foothills Medical Centre; Cochrane EMS; and the Southwood Hospice staff for their support of Lyle and the family during his final weeks.
Lyle Taylor will be forever in our hearts after his passing on November 25, 2021. We will be hosting a celebration of his life at Jumping Pound Community Hall on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Doors will open at 2 pm with light refreshments, and the program will start at 3 pm. Following the program, we welcome friends and family to share light snacks, and remember the good times we shared with Lyle.
The Jumping Pound Community Hall is located at 44208 Township Road 250. Take Trans-Canada Hwy #1 west from Calgary. Continue west on Hwy #1 from the Hwy #22 intersection for about 5.5 km. Take exit 156 off Hwy #1 onto Jumping Pound Road, turning right (northbound). Turn right (eastbound) on Township Road 250 and the hall is on the north / left hand side of the road.
