September 5, 1957 – April 12, 2019

Janice Arlene Spiers, beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt, died April

12, 2019, at the age of 61.

Janice was born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, on September 5, 1957.  She was the eighth of nine children born to Frank and Esther Forrester.  She attended Salmo Secondary School in Salmo, British Columbia, and during the summer breaks she worked at Camp Koolaree.  Her family lived on a farm just outside of Ymir, where she was always very active in the day-to-day activities of collecting eggs and tending to the gardens.

On Feb. 20, 1982, she married the love of her life, Ken Spiers.  Their eldest son, Kent, was born in June of that year.  Janice spent many years living throughout the Yukon while Ken was mining for gold, and they made many lifelong friends during those years in the North. When not in the Yukon, she worked at the CIBC in Nelson, which she enjoyed for many years.  In 1991, the family moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta, which remained their home for many years.  In 1994, their second son, Scott, was born.  The family moved to Spruce Grove in 2001 but returned a year later. Upon returning to Fort McMurray, Ken started a new career with Shell, and Janice focused on raising Scott.

The most important thing to Janice was her family, which she loved and supported unconditionally.  She was known for her big, loving heart, willingness and excitement to help her friends, world-class cooking and baking, pride in her sons’ achievements and the love she had for her Sharpei, Phoenix, whom she called her “baby girl.”

Janice is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Ken, parents Frank and Esther, and sisters Deanna, Caroline and Sandra. She leaves behind her sons Kent and Scott and son-in-law Erik.  She is also survived by her siblings Donna, Dennis, Les, Glenn and Brenda.

A celebration of life will be held on September 22, 2019 in Salmo, British Columbia at 11:00 am at the Legion Hall.

Arrangements entrusted to Cochrane Country Funeral Home, Florence (Flo) Simpson, Funeral Director Ph: 403-932-1039. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Janice Arlene Spiers, please visit our flower store.
