Karel Sedlecky

February 21, 1964 — December 6, 2014

February 21, 1964 – December 6, 2014

With sorrowful hearts, we announce that Karel Sedlecky, age 50, of Cochrane, Alberta, was taken from us suddenly on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 6:20 pm, in Cochrane, Alberta.

Karel was born in Decin, Czechoslovakia (present day Czech Republic), on February 21, 1964, to Alena Sedlecka and Karel Sedlecky. Karel was married to Karen on August 22, 2003 in Calgary, Alberta.

Karel immigrated to Toronto, Canada, from Czechoslovakia in 1986 with his life long friend, Jaroslav Kislinger. Fifteen years later, touching both minds and hearts along the way, he followed his dream to move West to Kelowna, British Columbia. He owned and operated his own business there for several years, before aspiring to obtain his MCSE Certificate through an extended program from the University of BC. It was there in the classroom, in 2001, where we found each other, fell in love, and never let go.

Our beloved Karel was a talented author and artist with heartfelt passion for people, and our two beautiful Bernese Mountain Dogs, Misha and Chinook. He had countless certificates of achievement, including his MCSE, A+ Certification, Certified Mechanic, Certified Forklift Operator, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and most recently became a valued member of the Super Sales Agents team at WestJet Airlines. There was nothing he did not excel at. Karel made the world beautiful and happy. I often called him ‘My Shining Star’ for exactly that reason. Karel made a tremendous, lasting impact on everyone who knew and loved him.

His love of friends, family, fun, and laughter will forever be remembered with utmost affection. He loved travelling, sunshine, Caribbean blue waters, driving, exotic sports cars, airplanes…he was a very gentle, diplomatic and caring man. He befriended many, and was always ready to help when needed, no questions asked. The void he leaves is irreparable. There will never be another like him. I love you ‘infinity’. I’ll never let you go.

Heartfelt thanks to all doctors, nurses, paramedics and staff at our Cochrane Urgent Care Centre for working tirelessly to save Karel’s life. We know that he was given the best care and chance possible. To our dear friends and family in Canada and Europe, most sincere love and thanks for all of your help and support in this devastating time.

Karel is predeceased by Alena Sedlecka (mother), and is survived by Karen Sedlecky (spouse); Myles Sedlecky (stepson); Gerard Malhiot (father-in-law); Doril Malhiot (mother-in-law); Joanne Malhiot (sister-in-law); Denis Mayit, (brother-in-law); Elaine Kessy (sister-in-law); Karel Sedlecky (father), Dana Holodova (stepmother), Milan Holoda (brother), Daniela Holodova (sister).
