January 17, 1929 – December 18, 2017
With great sadness we announce that Dora Schuler passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB. Born in Jesinice, Slovenia to Antonia and George Simon, Dora grew up with four sisters and three brothers. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 to join her husband Joseph Schuler who had gone ahead to establish a home in Oshawa, Ontario. Dora is the proud and loving mother of three children, Sylvia, Susane and Joseph (Stacey) and grandmother of two grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, two sisters, her three brothers, and her mother and father.
After a long working career in Oshawa in the nursing home as a nurse’s aid, she retired at age 64. She moved on her own to Vancouver and after eight years there, moved to be closer to her son and his family in Calgary. She was an excellent cook, baker and host who grew her own herbs and used only natural, fresh produce long before it was a trend.
Dora’s emotional and physical strength, courage, unconditional love of family and honesty lives on in her children and grandchildren as she led by example. She lived a long life due to her positive spirit and smile even through the difficulties of dementia during her last two years. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of spending time in her presence and will live on in our hearts and memories.
In keeping with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Condolences may be left at
