Gordon A. Sanders, passed away at the Southwood Care Centre at the age of 93 years old. He was the third oldest of six children born to William and Mary Sanders. He graduated from St. John’s High School in Winnipeg and within nine months started what would be a lifetime career with the airline industry. From March of 1939 to June of 1942 he worked for Trans Canada Airlines and did stints in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Halifax. Keeping with the same theme he joined the RCAF in June of 1942 and served overseas with the #428 Bomber Command Squadron until June of 1946. On his return he started working once again for Trans Canada in Winnipeg, but was later transferred to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, then to Lethbridge, Alberta (where the airline was eventually bought out by Air Canada). In 1971 he was transferred to Calgary, where he ended his career after 44 years in 1983. Not one to linger about, he quickly re-entered the work force as a realtor in Calgary for another 10 years. You would think after reading this Gord was all work and no play. Nothing could be further from the truth. In between those years he married a beautiful young woman named Nell on May 29th, 1947 in Winnipeg, raised a family of two boys and four girls and travelled the world including Moscow, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Islands in the Caribbean’s, and many major cities throughout North America. He was an avid Curler and Golfer till knee surgery slowed him down. He loved to play cards and was involved in a weekly bridge club till his illness landed him in the hospital this year. He was a social person who loved to make friends and converse and was involved with the Pionairs club of Calgary. He is predeceased by his wife Nell Sanders (November 29, 2009). He is survived by; two sons and one daughter-in-law; Gordon and Candice Sanders and Brian Sanders; four daughters and three son in laws; Deborah Sanders, Marilyn Sanders and Philip Rosso, Lorraine Sanders and Rod McRae and Gayle Sanders and Bradley Kinmond. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Jennifer and her husband Jason Seitanidis, Sherry Sanders and Nathan Dugdell , Chris and his wife Krista Sanders, Nicole and her husband Shane Herlihy and six great grand-children; Bella and Angelina Seitanidis, Avey and Kea Herlihy and Amara Sanders and Aurora Dugdell. He is also survived by one sister Frances Branigan of Lincoln, Rhode Island and predeceased by 3 sisters, Lillian Kentish, Kathleen (Kay) Estrada and Mary Sanders and one brother Bill Sanders. Gord was a man of honesty, integrity, and generosity who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life of family and friends, and the socializing aspects of cards and sports. He was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. A mass of celebration will be held at Corpus Christi Church located at 404 Northmount Place N.W., Calgary on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with a reception at the Corpus Christi hall to follow.
