December 26, 1957 – November 10, 2022
We regretfully announce that Bruno Joseph Roy passed away unexpectedly in Caroline AB on November 10th, 2022, in a house fire.
Those who knew Bruno, knew his truth because he was nothing more than who he was.
Bruno grew up in Quebec, left school in Grade 8, travelled all through North Africa, Morocco, Peru and into Spain and France. He ended up in Leslieville Alberta in 1983 where he met his late wife Catherine and (step) daughter Jessica and soon after became a family!
Bruno was a talented log home builder for many years. He was so skilled with a chainsaw. He was the guy that everyone had come to do the “hard jobs”. He would always get the job done. He spent countless days on the highest beams, balancing or hanging upside down with chainsaw in hand. He built many structures over the years from Oregon, USA; BC, AB and even had work shipped to Japan; his most prized piece was a log playhouse with hard wood floors, fully insulated that he built for his grandkids. It was his legacy to them.
Bruno was an incredibly hard worker and in his 50’s began working on the pipelines in preparation for his retirement. He was an extremely hard worker and quickly earned the respect of those he worked with, both his superiors and the young men he was asked to train and mentor. The years he spent working doing pipe bending he met many new friends and was very proud of what he had achieved.
He was always a steady man; not just walking on beams while building log homes or bending pipe in the field, but also while he mentored many young people through the beginning of their log home building careers or when they first joined the pipeline. He was always patient, kind, understanding and non judgemental. He always wanted everyone to succeed.
He was wise in life.
Bruno’s family was what he was most proud of.
He taught his daughter and grandkids so much over the years. Whether it was how to fish, play baseball and chess, build things-(“scribing a log can teach you a lot about life”, he said), catch food if needed, how to light the perfect fire and live off the land, and what to do if you ever found yourself in a situation that seemed like you couldn’t get out of it…he said “just always be honest!”
His dedication to never giving up is the most admirable. He never gave up! Bruno was kind and non judgemental towards every single person he met. He always said… “you never know what someone has gone through in their life… we all deserve to be treated with kindness”.
Bruno is survived by his father, siblings, daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids. He will be forever missed and never forgotten.
Bruno’s wish was to have a private gathering and that his ashes be placed with his wife’s and that all donations be made to the charity of your choice.
