It with great sorrow that we announce Raymond “Ray” John Carreau, aged 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, LaVonne of 61 years; son Brent and Laura Carreau of Portland, Oregon; son Todd and Debby Carreau and grandchildren Josh and Jenna Carreau of Vancouver, British Columbia. He is also survived by his brother Jack. Ray will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta to Isadore “Dick” and Gwendolyn Carreau, Ray was an avid athlete in his youth, participating in football, baseball and hockey. After graduating from high school, he worked in various roles in the automotive industry before embarking on a decades-long career with the City of Calgary.
Ray was known for his wit, candid perspective and gifted storytelling. He took great pleasure in making others laugh and was often the life of social occasions and family gatherings. His passions included gardening, following his favorite sports teams, and spending time with family.
In accordance with Ray’s wishes, no funeral will be held. A celebration of life event is planned for the summer of 2025, with details to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 7015 Macleod Trail SW #800, Calgary, AB T2H 2K6.
