It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joan Rasmussen was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on January 21, 1923 and passed away peacefully in Chilliwack, B.C., where she had lived for the past year and a half, on September 5th, 2013. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Bill and is survived by her children: Carla Turner (Sally Hatcher) of Calgary, Bob Harris (Betty) of Portage la Prairie, MB., Keith Scott (Diane) of Richmond, BC. ,Wendy Heise (Allen) of Edmonton and Kevin Scott (Deneen) of Chilliwack, BC. She is also survived by 3 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and one sister, Edythe Moore (Cameron) of Canal Flats, BC. Joan lived in Edmonton until 1976 when she moved with Bill to Calgary, and later to Cochrane where she lived for over 30 years. She was a founding and active member of Cochrane Alliance Church. She held the position of “sunshine lady” for over 20 years. Joan could always be counted on when a volunteer was needed and many in the congregation were the happy recipients of her delicious pies. She loved her church and church family with a genuine passion. Joan had many interests and pleasures in life. She and Bill camped most weekends for many years and saw much of Alberta and British Columbia. She loved the outdoors and animals, particularly dogs and horses. She was an avid reader for most of her 90 years. Above all, Joan was a loving, gentle, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was generous to all – her family and friends – and will always be remembered this way.
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at Cochrane Alliance Church
