It was a hot summer day that welcomed Doris Ann Wiebe, Tony and Mary Wiebe’s third child, into the world. She was born in Greenfarm, Saskatchewan, on July 13, 1937. Eventually, Doris would become the Wiebe family’s middle child of five children.
Doris, a spunky child, loved country lifestyle and embraced everything with her passion for life. She attended farm school from early days through grade eight. Moving into town to finish school, Doris completed grades nine through twelve in Herbert, and later attended Herbert Bible College.
Eventually, Doris entered the workforce; her first employment was at Voth Hardware in Herbert. Throughout her life, Doris worked various jobs including bank teller, motel owner-operator, and reflexologist. By far, her favorite work was the time spent serving seniors at Herbert Heritage Manor.
Doris loved people, and loved to converse with each and everyone. Friends and family recall she was always positive; a tender hearted listener who genuinely cared about others.
Doris loved fellowship with family, friends, church, and being a part of community. Meeting for coffee at the Esso, Tim Horton’s, Robyn’s Donuts, or Coffee Time was her favorite thing. Doris was always health conscious and frequented Spa Lady for both exercise and a chance to visit with friends.
Doris treasured her moments with her kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved being involved in the everyday things, even tobogganed with her grandkids.
Doris will be greatly missed by Ann (Guido) Hunt, Karen (Lane) Smith, Russell (Shannon) Priebe and grandchildren Tanner, Akeela, Jana, Justin, Karyn, Riley, and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Lorne (2007), sister Lois, and brother Arthur.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at Rockyview Alliance Church, 6927 Rundlehorn Drive N.E., Calgary on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 2:30 P.M.
