It is with much sadness that Ann’s family announces that she passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her sons, Les(Kathryn) and Randy; Grandsons David(Trish), Michael(Erika) and Blake(Amanda); as well as her 5 great grandchildren – Faith, Christian, Lincoln, Violet and Grace. She was predeceased by her husband Tony, her parents Peter and Dora Pitchko, of Saskatoon; and all her siblings – sister Mary (Woloshin), brother Peter, sister Olga (Dushenko), brothers Andrew, Victor, Johnnie, sister Dora (Susinski), and brothers George, and infant brother Nickie.
Ann began her life in a mud plastered log house on a farm near Dana about 1 hour east of Saskatoon.
She attended the 2 room school until grade 11 when, due to a shortage of teachers during the war, she was selected to teach at the Merry Home School (1943/44). The following year she taught at the Sand Lake School (1944/45). It was during this time that she met her husband to be, Tony Olaski. In 1949 the family settled in Saskatoon and Ann took time off teaching to raise 2 sons.
During that time she was involved in the family business of constructing investment properties. With her sons at school, she completed her Grade XII by correspondence and then completed 3 years of university by attending summer classes and night classes while teaching in the Catholic School System in Saskatoon followed by 4 years as Library Consultant. In 1976 she took the Real Estate Course and worked with Montreal Trust for 7 years and continued substitute teaching until 1986. By 1987 she moved to Manitou Beach. With building and Real Estate sales in her blood, she joined Crawford Ins. Ltd as a Real Estate agent in 1988.
From Manitou Beach she moved back to Saskatoon to the Ilarion Residence where she made many friends and enjoyed working on the courtyard. In her retirement years Ann was able to relax and enjoy her favourite activities: family get-togethers, gardening, a good sing along, playing musical instruments, good Ukrainian cooking and of course following her favourite teams the Riders and the Blue Jays. A good game of Kaiser was always enjoyed with family especially when she was partnered with sister-in-law Betty Pitchko whom she really considered her “sister”.
Her last major move was to Cochrane, Alberta in the summer of 2011. She enjoyed being close to both her sons and grandsons and great grandchildren. The absolute highlight of her final years was the births of her two great grand daughters Violet and Grace Ann.
