June 6, 1919 – February 27, 2020
Virl Martha Nordvall (McKnight) passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2020 in Cochrane Alberta. She proudly celebrated her 100th Birthday in 2019, and would have been 101 years old this coming June.
Born at home, in a rural area near Gunworth Saskatchewan, to Lily and Edwin McKnight. She is also predeceased by older sister Jean, and younger brother George. Virl married her husband Eric Nordvall in June of 1965. They enjoyed dancing, traveling the world, and playing cards with friends until Eric lost his battle with Alzheimers in 2001.
In March of 1938, Virl became a mother to her only daughter Calma (Davidson). Her family grew until she became the first of 5 living generations. In addition to daughter Calma, she is survived by 3 grandchildren (Darrell, Brent, Laurie), 6 great-grandchildren (Christopher, Bradley, Pauline, Rebecca, Jacqueline, Stephanie), and 7 great greatgrandchildren (Tessa, Ellie, Aubree, Rayna, Gracie, Ben, Max).
She is fondly remembered for her sense of humour, right
until her last day. She would always welcome visitors into a warm house, filled
smells of fresh baked buns or other pastries. She loved soap operas, gardening,
children, baking, crocheting, animals, and cards. She was a sucker for a
handsome young face, and would have bought 12 vacuum cleaners if the
opportunity arose. In her lifetime, she overcame cancer, heart conditions, and
broken hips – always proving how strong and independent she was. She will be
greatly missed and cherished for the special memories that she leaves behind.
A special thank you, for the caregivers and friends at
Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, who supported her with companionship, care,
and dignity.
Arrangements entrusted to Cochrane Country Funeral Home, Florence (Flo) Simpson, Funeral Director. Ph: 403-932-1039.
