November 24, 1958 – April 10, 2020
It is with deep sadness that the family of Shirley Ann Nichols announces her passing on April 10th, 2020. Shirley passed suddenly and unexpectedly- The Lord called her home.
Shirley was born November 24th, 1958 in Swift Current Saskatchewan and was the second oldest of 6 siblings born to John & Anne Bartsch. Shirley had very fond memories of her time growing up on the farm in Saskatchewan and her love of the farm continued though out her life. In 1972 the Bartsch family moved their family to Abbotsford, B.C. for a new job opportunity. Shirley graduated from Abby Senior in 1976 and attended Bible School in Kelowna for 2 years after High School.
Shirley was married in 1978 and in 1981 they moved to Edmonton, AB. In January of 1982 her dear daughter Melissa was born and in March of 1994 her second darling daughter Cheyanne was born. Shirley was a devoted and loving Mother and provided everything she could for her Daughters.
Shirley was a gentle, kind-hearted and giving soul and always put others first. She was a hardworking and loyal employee of Woolco and later Walmart for almost 40 years. Shirley was also a talented Artist who could create an impressive display with whatever available. Her front porch was always decorated for the season, and was her favourite spot for her morning coffee, for reading and for long phone conversations with her Sister Lucy. Shirley loved the simple things in life such as gardening, coffee dates and listening to the Gaithers Gospel and Country Music.
In 2011, Shirley was ecstatic about the birth of her 1st granddaughter Aspen and in 2014 her 2nd granddaughter Norah was born. In the Spring of 2015, Shirley moved to Cochrane to be closer to her grandchildren. Those memories of their “Nana” will forever be cherished. Shirley was proud to call Cochrane home and would always say “I’ll never get tired of looking at those Mountains”.
Shirley will be profoundly missed by her daughters Melissa Nichols (Bryce Mawbey) of Cochrane and Cheyanne Nichols (Zach Forstl) of Edmonton and her grandchildren Aspen Mawbey & Norah Mawbey of Cochrane.
Never to be forgotten – Always in our hearts – Until we see you again.
She is survived by her five siblings, Emily (Ken) Peters, Gary (Jackie) Bartsch, Elsie (Dave) Wiebe, Vic (Pat) Bartsch, and Lucy (Les) Mayes. She is survived by her many nieces & nephews as well as her 15 great nieces/nephews. She is also survived by her aunt Tina Guenther, aunt Betty, aunt Margaret Hildebrandt, uncle Frank Remple and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, John Bartsch (1931-2009) and Anne Bartsch (1934-2015).
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Cochrane Country Funeral Home, Alison (Allie) Van Arnam, Funeral Director. Ph: 403-932-1039.
