Mavis was born in Kirkby-In-Ashfield, Notts, England, the only child of Fred Wright and Amie (nee Parsons). She spent a happy childhood in the country surrounding by her large extended family. Mavis met her beloved husband Joe and had their daughter Tia before emigrating to Canada in 1966.
Mavis spent the majority of her career in the fashion industry. She finished her six decades in the "rag trade" teaching her passion to students at SAIT.
Retirement allowed time for knitting, sewing, reading, cruising and spending time with friends and her much loved and loving family. Mavis lost Joe, her beloved partner in all their life's adventures, in 2018.
With the help of family and friends, who gave of themselves so generously, Mavis was able to remain in her home until the final months of her long life. Our family wish to send our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Solyom, the staff of the Bethany Day program, the staff of the Agape Hospice, especially Dr. Ahmed, Fariya, Justin, and the two Kims, and to Sarah and the Chalaturnyk family.
Mavis will be remembered with love and sadly missed by daughter Tia, by grandsons Matthew (Shawna) ,Devin (Andrea), and Cody (Aimee) and by great-grandchildren Lily, Violet, Isabelle, Emery, Adalee, Artis, and Kyra, Greyson, Austin and the baby on the way.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church (128 1 St E, Cochrane, AB) on Saturday, 26 October from 1 to 4 p.m.
