July 26, 1943 – February 5, 2011
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend died on February 5, 2011 at the Foothills Medical Centre. He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife of 44 years Janet; son Ryan (Susie) of Red Deer; daughters Lana Barlow(John) of Calgary and Jennifer Bogner (Michael) of Stettler; his precious grandchildren Ksenia, Lynx, Alexis, Evan, Kaylee and Alexandra; sisters Doris Brook of Nevada, Rita Guerra (Ed) of Alabama; brothers in law Herb Wyness (Miran) of Vernon BC, Jim Wyness (Charlotte) of Edmonton, David Wyness (Carol) of Sherwood Park, Don Wyness (Karol) of Stratford Ontario, sisters in law Darlene McGregor (Gary) of Wabamum AB, and Brenda Wyness of Dewberry AB.
Don was a Christian man who believed that one’s own life and how you lived it was the greatest testament of your faith. His God-given gifts of patience and endurance were truly tested in his struggle with rheumatic heart disease and cancer. He wore his illness with a nobility and grace that was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Don always gave to his family & community; whether husband, father, coach, Scout leader, church councillor, town councillor, board member, or employee, all received his best effort. A career in aviation was thwarted by complications of rheumatic heart disease but his 30+ years in the lumber industry were both enjoyable and rewarding.
Friends and family will always remember Don as “our rock of Gibraltar” and “our calm in the storm”.
Don was predeceased by his parents Helen and Ray Ledene and brothers in law Marvin Brook and Alex Wyness.
Funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hwy 22 and George Fox Trail, Cochrane, Alberta on Friday February 11, 2011 at 1:00pm with Pastor Rick Bergh officiating. Interment to follow at the Cochrane Cemetery.
