Captain Lawrence “Larry” Anderson, died peacefully in Bow View Manor on August 30, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 81.

Larry was born on October 11, 1942 in Calgary and spent his entire life in the city. Larry is survived by his wife Karen of 53 years, his daughters Chandra and Cheryl, his son in law Melvin and his grandchildren Kyle, Brett, Shayna and Owen.

Larry took great pride in being a fireman from 1963-1994. During his fire career he worked the 1988 Olympics, Superman III movie staring Christopher Reeve and a charity golf tournament with Arnold Palmer. Larry also worked as the Public Information Officer appearing on the News and The Buck Shot Show staring Ron Barge. Larry promoted fire safety by creating the mascot Sparky the Firedog and honouring Junior Fire Chiefs each year on The Buck Shot Show.

Larry was passionate about volunteering, wood working, cooking and sports. He enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and golf. He was a charismatic, generous and witty man who surrounded himself with family and friends.

Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at Bow View Manor for their devotion to Larry’s care. Larry did not want a funeral. A private family celebration of life will be held.
