Jeanne (Jean) Batley (née Jeanroy)

April 22, 1926 — October 28, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beautiful Mom, Jeanne Batley. Jeanne passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024 at Carewest Garrison Green in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 98 years.

Jeanne was born to a French Canadian family, Florentine and Gabriel Jeanroy, at home on the family farm near Springside, Saskatchewan on April 22, 1926. Jeanne, their youngest daughter, worked alongside her dad on the family farm near Kuroki, Saskatchewan until the age of 21 when the family moved to Kelowna, BC.

Jeanne met her future husband, Earl Batley at The British Columbia Bible Institution in Victoria, BC. Earl and Jeanne were married on October 10, 1953 and moved to Calgary where they were proud founding members of the Montgomery Pentecostal Tabernacle. Jeanne was a devoted Christian and lived her life accordingly.

Jeanne was a homemaker, parent to three children, foster parent to several children, worked as a housekeeper and worked with Earl as a custodian.

Jeanne was an expert knitter and knitted her family’s clothes. She spent a lot of time in her vegetable garden which she loved. Jeanne grew enough food from her garden to provide for her family. Jeanne faced the challenges of dementia, and even as her memory faded, her humour remained.

Jeanne is survived by her two daughters, Darleen Niznik and Loretta Heseltine, her son Edwin Batley, and two grandsons, Brian and Alexander. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband Earl in 1996 and her older sister Cecile in 2013.

A special thank you for the caregivers and friends at Carewest Garrison Green who supported her for 13 years, with care, love and companionship.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Alzheimer Calgary in Jeanne's name will be appreciated.

A private service will be held for Jeanne, when she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Earl.
