July 01, 1945 Calgary, AB – March 08, 2022 Calgary, AB
With profound sadness, Gloria’s family announces her passing at Foothills Hospital. The third child born to Thomas and Margaret Beattie, she grew up and was educated in Cochrane. Gloria was athletic, enjoyed track and field, curling and golf as well as long walks around town.
Family was everything to Gloria. She was a devoted daughter, mother, aunty and “Bama”. Treasured memories include holiday trailer trips and weekend camping at Westward Ho with Bill and Debbie in the company of best friends. Later in her life, she enjoyed day trips and more distant destination adventures with friends. She spent untold hours in skating/hockey rinks and rodeo grounds/arenas. Cheering and transporting her children to their extra curricular activities and being a driver and devoted fan for her grandchildren brought Gloria great joy (and sometimes a little anxiety). She was tireless in hosting or contributing to celebratory family dinners for festive and birthday occasions. Before, and as she raised children, Gloria worked at the local Royal Bank of Canada, eventually becoming full-time. Everyone she greeted at the RBC business cage remembers her efficient and friendly service.
Gloria was a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15. In recognition of her long-term service, the Branch applied for, and received, national approval to confer a lifetime membership. When the work was done, Gloria loved joining her friends on the sunny patio to laugh and share a cold one.
Gloria will be dearly missed by her son; Bill Johnson (fiancé Lisa Bouchard); son-in-law Jim Scott; her precious grandchildren: Tyson and Jennifer Johnson; Shayelyn, Briley, Tayannah and Haydyn Scott. Gloria’s siblings left to mourn are: Marion Fenton (Bill Bachynski), David Beattie (Ann), Linda Hoomana, Bob Beattie (Carmen), and Tim Beattie. She is also survived by Fred’s sister, Bev (Keith) Robertson and his mother, Mary Johnson. Gloria was a beloved aunt to Karen, Tom, Laurie, Teresa; Jody, Jeff; Malcolm, Sean and Tanya. It is impossible to name the multitude of friends and colleagues who loved and supported Gloria throughout her life.
Gloria was predeceased by her father and mother, her dear husband, Fred Johnson, her treasured daughter-in-law, Kim (April 2020) and her beloved daughter, Debra Scott (July 2021). Gloria’s family and friends will miss her now, always, and forever.
Gloria expressed deep appreciation for her care provided over the last eight years, led by oncologists Dr. John Lau and Dr. Desiree Hao. Gloria was treated with dignity and patience by every team during many procedures and treatments, especially Unit 47 at the Foothills Hospital.
We will celebrate Gloria’s life at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #15 (114 Fifth Avenue, Cochrane, AB) on Saturday, March 19, 2022 1:00 p.m. To join the livestream of the service please use the following link:
