Ronald Ashley English

October 19, 1927 — October 22, 2017

October 19, 1927 – October 22, 2017

Ronald Ashley English, 90 years of age, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in Calgary, AB. Ron will be reunited with his love of his life, Helen (married 62 years). His greatest joys were his three children and will be very dearly missed by Wesley (Julie), Stacey (Joe) and Leesa (Terry).

Ron’s focus was ensuring Family were happy and encouraged them to experience the world and do things they loved. Ron did not define Family with boundaries. Everyone was welcome at their home.

The Calgary Fire Dept was an integral part of Ron’s Family. When asked why he wanted to be a Firefighter his response was “to help people”. Ron held many positions within the Calgary Fire Dept but when Ron told stories it was consistently focused on the men on the floor. Ron defined a Firefighter to have “guts and common sense”. Ron enjoyed being a part of the Calgary Fire Dept well after his departure at age 59. We will miss you “Eng”.

Ron was athletic and enjoyed many sports. Ron enjoyed baseball and his passion for the game started young. Beginning with the 1944 Ogden Vics, continuing over the years with the Calgary Purity 99s, Calgary Buffaloes and finishing as a player/coach with the Calgary Purity 99s in the 1950’s. Ron continued to coach amateur baseball for many years. Ron enjoyed following the Flames, Stamps and baseball.

Ron enjoyed landscaping and the creativity it offered. The gardening was important as Ron and Helen spent many evenings enjoying time together and the positive energy the yard gave them.

“Grampa” was a strong, positive influence on his grand kids as they observed his great attitude for life. He will be missed greatly by Grand kids Taylor, Brittany, Jade, Jacqui, Tamra, Steven and Sean, and Great Grand kids Hudson and Lux.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ken Cody and all the many doctors, nurses and caregivers that enabled Ron to stay at home. A special thank you to his grandson Sean, who without his support would not have enabled Ron to enjoy the sanctuary of his home.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes there will be a Private Ceremony.

Condolences may be left at www.cochranecountryfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Lawrence (Larry) Slywka of Cochrane Country Funeral Home 403-932-1039
