Gerard Delaurier

August 15, 1976 — May 12, 2019

August 15, 1976 – May 12, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Gerard Delaurier of Calgary Alberta on Sunday, May 12, 2019 in Penticton, BC at the age of 42 years old.

Gerard was born in Dauphin Manitoba on August 15, 1976 and at the age of 3 months old, he lost his father (Leo Delaurier) in a sudden and tragic death. He resided in Winnipeg until he was thirteen years old at which time, he moved to Ste. Rose MB until he graduated. After graduation, Gerard moved to Swan River MB to work for his uncle Joel Delaurier and subsequently earned a Diploma in “Hotel & Restaurant Management” from the Red River College in Winnipeg.

In his mid-twenties, Gerard ventured west to Alberta, settling in Cochrane and Calgary. For several years, he was a Drywaller, an accomplished Hardwood Floor Layer and “Jack of all Trades” rising to any challenge presented to him.  He decided to pursue a career in Masonry and received a Certificate of Accomplishment from SAIT in 2013, earning him the title “Bricklayer”. Because of Gerard’s creativity and attention to detail, he pursued the direction of working and specializing in Stonemasonry and became well known in the industry as “This is the guy we want on our project!”. From commercial projects in Calgary and surrounding areas, to multi-million-dollar homes, Gerard’s skills led him to work in the Okanagan Valley on a regular basis, with his last project in Penticton, BC this past May.

Gerard met the love of his life, Christine Sharman in October 2015 and they both realized it was kismet! It was shortly after they met, Gerard and Christine decided to live together because they knew it was “meant to be”. Gerard received the blessings from Christine’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage and in September 2018 they were engaged with a wedding date set for June 6, 2020.

Gerard was an amazing man and loved by so many. He always had a smile on his face and knew how to make anyone laugh. He was kind, thoughtful, considerate, and had so much love to give. He was a hard worker and put his heart and soul into everything he did.

Gerard was extremely proud to be a member of his extended family which included many dear friends. He is survived by his loving fiancé, Christine Sharman, her parents (Fiona Sharman, Mike Lagasse), his mother Diane Dipple (Alan), his brother Michael Delaurier (Rachel Charette), nephew Matthew and niece Sarah, 24 aunts and uncles, first cousins and their spouses and children.

He was predeceased by his Father, Leo Delaurier, his paternal grandparents Cecile and Alexandre Delaurier, and his maternal grandparents Evelyn and Vladimir Denys, his uncles; Ovid Delaurier, Louis Delaurier, Joseph Delaurier, Jim Weisensel, Johnny Denys, his aunt Doreen Delaurier.

A Celebration of Gerard’s Life will be held at the RockPointe Church – Bearspaw (255024 Lochend Road, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm.
