Beattie, David Joseph October 13, 1943 Calgary, AB – November 25, 2024 Calgary, AB
With profound sadness and love, Dave’s family comforted him as he left us. The second child of Thomas and Margaret Beattie, he lived at Ghost Dam as an infant and, as a toddler, moved to Cochrane where he completed Grade 12. He attended SAIT twice, first completing the interprovincial automotive mechanic program at the top of his class and, later, completing the Certified Engineering Technician program and joining ASET. Initially recruited to work in the Pembina oilfield near Buck Creek, Alberta, his entire career was in oil and natural gas production operations.
Family was everything to Dave. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and Grandpa. He celebrated more than 58 years of a strong married partnership with Ann. Dave will be dearly missed by sons Malcolm and Sean. His favourite pastime involved any activity with his beloved grandchildren. Amelia, Fiona and Benjamin knew Grandpa was always up for some fun swimming, cycling, hiking or ATV-ing and weiner roasting at the farm. Treasured memories include field work with his family in tow throughout BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, curling, mountain hiking, stream fishing, holiday trailer trips, canoeing and hunting, family history as well as golfing locally and around the world. Dave was a Queen Scout and led troops in Cochrane, Alder Flats and, later, Scouts and Venturers in Cochrane.
Besides his family, Dave leaves siblings to mourn: Marion Fenton (Bill Bachynski), Bob Beattie (Carmen), and Tim Beattie. He is also survived by his cousins Sharon (England), Bonnie (Saskatoon), Heather (Okotoks). His nieces and nephews are from many families: Fenton, Johnson, Hoomana, Scott, Neilson, and Wik. On his mother’s side he has a number of cousins primarily in BC and Saskatchewan. Dave was predeceased by his sisters Gloria Johnson and Linda Hoomana as well as several cousins including Jean Gillies (Scotland) and Julia (Estevan). Throughout his years of travel for work and pleasure, mentoring, and community volunteering, Dave and Ann made a vast number of friends and colleagues with whom he enjoyed staying in touch. Dave’s family deeply appreciate the care provided by the dedicated medical team in the Foothills CV ICU Unit 94 led by Dr. Corey Adams and Dr. Tomas Godinez.
