January 7, 1952 – October 14, 2020
It is with great sadness and fond memories we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. A strong, courageous, generous man.
He will be sadly missed by his 3 daughters; Jeannie (John) Akerstrom, Jenny Casavant and Julie Casavant, and his 2 grand children; Cacie Akerstrom and Jaxen Casavant, his siblings Marie (Gilles) April, Andre (Muriel) Casavant, Marcel (Marilyn) Casavant, Raymond Casavant and Lilliane (Brian) Berquist; as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, brother/sister in laws and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Clementine and Ernest Casavant; sisters Yvette Casavant, Suzanne Grimard, Jeannine Bussiere, Irene Hilkewich; father/mother-in-law, brothers-in-law and nephew Marcel Grimard.
Dad was born on January 7, 1952 in Prince Albert, SK. He grew up with his family (mom, dad and 9 siblings) on a farm in Doremy, SK. Dad shared many fond memories of his earlier years and we loved his stories. Dad was a great hockey player and went on to play for Notre Dame College in Manitoba for a few years.
He later moved to Coquitlam, BC in the summer when he was 18 where he met his wife Lucie of 22 years. In 1975, Clem, his brother Ray Casavant and their wives moved to Kimberley, BC, new owners of “The Canadian Hotel”. A few years later Ray went on his own and Clem continued to run the Canadian Hotel for 20 years. Dad loved baseball and played for many years as the pitcher and sponsored many sports teams.
After Dad sold the Hotel in 1995, he moved to Calgary to be closer to his daughters and worked in Construction for the next 20 years. Dad retired at the age of 62.
He LOVED the Calgary Flames, the BIGGEST fan ever!! Dad also loved Elvis Presley and was known as Uncle Elvis to his many nieces and nephews. His other passions included Johnny Cash, Dancing, Music, Card Games, Movies and TV, his beloved cat “Ms Kitty” whom he had for 15 years, Socializing and loved having a visitor over, where there was always a cold “Lucky Beer” in the fridge.
Dad never complained. He enjoyed a simple life and reminded us in his last days, he had a great life. We will miss his stories, sense of humour and love him, forever and always. Dad will always be our Hero and Guardian Angel.
A special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses in ER and units 39/38 – Peter Lougheed Hospital, and the Dulcina Hospice.
