Katherine Rose Cannady

December 4, 1943 – August 21, 2018

CANNADY, Katherine (Kathy) Rose (née Hooge), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at the Brentwood Care Centre in her 75

th

year.  Beloved wife of 57 years of Myron E. Cannady, and dearly loved mother of Kevin (and wife, Allin), Keenan (and wife, Michele), and Kirk (and wife, Mila) Cannady all of Calgary.  Cherished Grandmother of Keaton, Kandra, Caroline and Jessica, all of Calgary.  Treasured sister of the late George Hooge (and wife, Eleanor), of Caronport, Saskatchewan, Lena (and husband, George) Plett of Gem, Alberta, Jake (and wife, Marie) Hooge of Lethbridge, and Dorothy (and husband, Pete) Dzioba, of Lethbridge.  Dear sister-in-law of Jim (and the late Barb) Cannady of Taber, Alberta, Betty (and husband, the late Bob) Morrison of Lethbridge, Alberta, Gordie (and wife, Brenda) Cannady of Calgary, Joan (and husband, Keith) Langille of Lethbridge, Alberta, June (and husband, Harry) Wong of Edmonton and Bob (and wife, Carol Anne) Cannady of Guelph, Ontario.  Also much loved by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Kathy was the first of five children, born on December 4, 1943, in Taber, Alberta, to the late George and Sarah Hooge.  As a young girl, she spent many years working alongside her parents and siblings on their modest farm near Purple Springs.  In her early teens, to assist her family, she obtained a job in Taber, where she met and married the love of her life, Myron, on December 23, 1961.  They then established their first residence together in Lethbridge, Alberta where two sons were born.   Moves to Calgary, Jasper and Calgary (again) followed.  In Calgary, a third son was added to the family.  Myron’s job later took them to Burlington, Ontario, back to Calgary and then to Newmarket, Ontario.  In 1991 they moved back to Calgary permanently.

Kathy was very active and loved to camp, hike, backpack, cross country ski, downhill ski, tai chi, gardening, yoga, running, walking and other physical activities.  She was an excellent cook who loved animals and nature and was able to find beauty and good in everything.  All her life, she was an extremely reliable hard-working woman and many of her happiest and most satisfying times were those she spent assisting others whether they be family, friends or acquaintances.  She provided caregiving services to the elderly and those with special needs and was selflessly dedicated to family and friends offering help and support to all without hesitation.  Even as her health declined, she always managed a beautiful smile and an offer of assistance where she saw fit and was physically able to do so.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and, a family celebration of life will be held:

September 15, 2018, 2:00 to 5:00pm
