Earl John Bradley

April 30, 1946 — September 6, 2015

April 30, 1946 – September 6, 2015

Earl John Bradley passed peacefully in his sleep into the presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Sunday, September 6, 2015.

Earl was born April 30, 1946 in Trochu, Alberta, the younger son of Ralph and Margaret Bradley of Three Hills and brother to Harold.

Earl was raised in a home with a heritage of Christian faith going back many generations. He came to a living faith in Christ at a young age. Living in Three Hills, Earl attended the school system of Prairie Bible Institute from kindergarten through post-secondary Bible school, graduating in 1969. He excelled in academics and sports, particularly hockey.

After Bible school, Earl moved to Calgary to attend what was then the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, earning honours in Business Administration.

In 1970, he started his first career at the Calgary Woodward’s department store in the men’s wear department. The next year he married Marjorie McDowell from Ontario. To this union, Catherine Dianne was born in 1972, and Julie Lianne in 1974. The family resided in Cochrane for many years while the girls were growing up.

Desiring a change of career, Earl joined Calgary Power Company (now TransAlta Corporation) as a purchaser/expediter, an emphasis that lasted for the remainder of his working life. His subsequent employment was with Shell Canada (Crows Nest Resources) in downtown Calgary and at the Jumping Pound gas plant, the Husky Oil upgrader at Lloydminster and the Husky Ram River gas plant near Rocky Mountain House. Marjorie considers that at Ram River Earl was the most happy and fulfilled in his career. During this time he upgraded his skills in Purchasing Management, and was given early retirement by Husky.

New employment in Perth, Australia for WorleyParsons allowed him to share his life with his daughter, Julie, son-in-law, Stephen, and grandsons, Connor and Jordan for almost two years.

In January 2013, Earl transferred to WorleyParsons in Calgary, then to Edmonton for one year, retiring with Marjorie to Cochrane in July 2014 to be close to his daughter Catherine and her family.

Although Earl was very dedicated to and conscientious in his work, he also made eternal contributions to others. He loved his family dearly and, with Marjorie, built into his daughters’ and grandchildren’s lives the Christian principles by which he lived. He was actively involved in such churches as Springbank Community Church near Calgary, Lloydminster First Baptist Church and Rocky Mountain Alliance Church ( Rocky Mountain House ), serving, for example, on the welcoming committee and helping with church maintenance and repairs.

Earl’s great love of exploring led to many summer road trips, enjoyed as a family, throughout British Columbia and the western States. His love for camping and the outdoors lives on in his children and grandchildren.

In June 2015 Earl suffered a mild stroke, which affected parts of his speech for a time but not his overall health, wonderful sense of humour and quick wit. He was always doing whatever he could for family, friends and neighbours. On the evening of Saturday, September 5, he returned from taking his faithful Newfoundland dog, Mugsy, for a walk, delighting in showing his Australian grandchildren, Connor and Jordan, the fresh snowflakes that were falling. Shortly after, he went to bed and awakened in Heaven.

Earl was predeceased by his father in 1999 and his mother in 2006. Left to await our reunion with him in heaven are his loving wife of 44 years, Marjorie; daughter, Catherine (Ryan) Legary and children Sylvie, Raine and Isaac of Cochrane; daughter, Julie (Stephen) Duffy and children Connor and Jordan of Perth, Australia; one brother, Harold (Mary) of Calgary and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and wonderful friends.

A visitation will take place at Cochrane Alliance Church, prior to the funeral service from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M.

Funeral Service will be held at the Cochrane Alliance Church ( 902 Glenbow Drive ) on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with a Graveside Service to follow at the Cochrane Cemetery
