February 24, 1931 – March 5, 2015
Grace Bobey was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on February 24, 1931. At the age of 9 months she moved with her newly widowed mother to Edmonton, Alberta where she lived close to extended family her entire life. Grace graduated from the University of Alberta BSc Nursing program in 1953 and dedicated her life to caring for others. She met her future husband, William Bobey, while serving in the Canadian Medical Corps reserve and ultimately retired from service with the rank of captain. After taking time off from nursing to raise her three children, Grace returned to the profession for 18 more years. She retired from nursing at the age of 66 to focus on playing bridge, swimming and watching her grandchildren grow and flourish. Her passion for learning was contagious and she read widely her entire life. Some of her fondest memories were of summers spent at Pigeon Lake with family and friends. Despite recent failing health, Grace enjoyed living with her family until the end. Grace was predeceased by her husband William Bobey on September 11, 2014. She is survived by her son Geoff; daughter Nicola, son-in-law Conrad Schiebel, and their children Alexandra and Rudi; son Andrew, daughter-in-law Fiona with their son Cade.
