December 14, 1965 – February 9, 2014
Vesna was born in Ptuj, Slovenia and emigrated to Toronto with her parents Ivo and Maria and sister Martina when she was six. Eventually the family moved to Uxbridge Ont. where she became a very good skier and worked as a ski instructor and administrator at Dagmar Ski Resort. At this time she received a diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College and also backpacked around Europe twice, once with her sister Martina, and once with her friend Hester Fuchs.
Vesna met Bill, who was taking a break from a circumnavigation, at Dagmar , and left in the spring to do a boat trip. This was a big step for someone who had never been to sea and they did six months through the Mediterranean from Larnaca in Cyprus to Gibraltar with the highlight being two months spent on the coast of Turkey.
Vesna & Bill were married in Toronto in 1990, Bill having crossed the Atlantic and turned north to Toronto instead of west through Panama.They moved to Calgary where she was the guiding hand for Brentwood later Dalhousie Station Veterinary Clinic.
Vesna was very talented artistically as a painter, photographer and pianist and had a particular talent as an interior designer She was very proud of her house and garden in Bragg Creek.
As well as the diploma in Graphic Design, she did a B.F.A. and B. Ed. at U of C.
She has two children, Evan and Megan who have made her very proud and have inherited her love of seeing the world having already been to Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Vesna made good friends in Bragg Creek and was very appreciative of their help and support during difficult times and was also very appreciative of the help and support of family.
This brave, talented woman died in Canmore at sunrise looking out on the Rockies with her family at her side on February 9th.
A celebration of Vesna’s life will be held in the Snowbirds Chalet in Bragg Creek on Sunday March 16th at 2:00 p.m.
