NIVEN, Benjamin Charles
December 24, 1920 – August 13, 2011

Ben passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years on Saturday, August 13, 2011 after a brief illness at the Foothills Medical Centre. He is survived by Janet, his lifetime companion and wife of 68 years. Also mourning his loss are his three children, Janice (Bruce) Allan, Robert Allan (Debbie) Niven and Grant (Donna) Niven. As well he has 4 grandchildren – Mari-Anne, Donald, Ben and Bradley and 7 great-grandchildren who will miss him very much.
Ben’s life, in addition to his family commitments, was full of interests resulting in life memberships with the Masonic Lodge, the Calgary Highland Games Association and the St. Andrews Caledonian Society. He also enjoyed many years with the Calgary Highlanders and Clan McBain pipe bands.
At Ben’s request there will be no funeral service or graveside prayers. Cremation has already taken place. Those wishing to remember him may make donations to a charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr Quan and to the fine staff on both the ICU and Unit 44 in the McCaig Tower at FMC for all the effort, excellent care and compassion they showed him.
