NEWSOME, Peter William
May 17, 1946 – November 6, 2021
Peter William Newsome, 75, of Cochrane, Alberta, was called to heaven after a short but courageous battle with cancer on November 6, 2021. He was born May 17, 1946 to Frank and Mary Newsome of Bearspaw, where they had a dairy farm. He attended Bearspaw and Glendale schools then the family moved to farm 3 ½ miles southwest of Cremona in 1968. He married Susan Yazlovasky on October 9, 1971 and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage. Together they took over the family farm where they raised their family while continuing to farm, raising cattle, chickens, and growing various crops. Peter also drove the school bus for 27 years before retiring and moving to Cochrane.
Peter loved everything about the farm life and enjoyed passing on this love and knowledge to his sons and later his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, camping, fishing and just being outdoors riding the quad with his family. Peter was a member of the Cremona Ag Society, Pine Slopes Ranching Association and the Bearspaw Historical Society over the years. Dad was a strong, quiet man with a witty sense of humor who loved his family dearly.
Peter was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary, and half brother Norman. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, and three sons: Rob (Cyndi), Tim (Cheryle), and Shawn (Ashley); his granddaughters Delanie & Robyn Newsome, step granddaughter Bree Baskin, and grandsons Ray & Jonah Newsome; sister Evelene (Neil), brothers Fred (Lucy), Ken (Linda), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no ceremony as per Peter’s wishes and the family request that any donations made in Peter’s honor go towards the Agape Hospice or the Cancer Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Florence (Flo) Simpson, Funeral Director

Very sorry for the family’s loss. Pete was another generous gentle soul that even during your toughest times, his presents with that smile could make you want to be happy. I feel with the world as it is this is a dying trait. The world really needs more Petes! When someone’s smile can cheer up your day, you feel the need to pass that on. For that reason the most is why I will always have the highest respect for him, it’s his legacy. Rest easy Pete, life well lived with patiences, love, kindness and the ability to pass it on. Our thoughts are with you all

Auntie Susan, Rob, Tim, Shawn and families. We are thinking of you all. Uncle Pete will be missed. He had a quiet presence but impacted many lives. When our boys were little he was known as the Christmas tree uncle even though we only went to Uncle Pete’s and Auntie Susan’s a couple of times for trees. Take care
