MUNRO, Edna Martha

1931 – 2023

Born in 1931 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Edna Martha Munro, nee Cullen, passed away peacefully in the Canmore Hospital Monday morning April 17, 2023 at the age of 92. A daughter of William and Martha Cullen of Springbank she had six siblings: four sisters, Louise, Bette, Jean, and Margaret along with two brothers, Bill and Bob. Her parents and and all her siblings have predeceased her.

Edna grew up in the Springbank community. In 1949 she married Reg Munro who also grew up there. The two initially resided and worked in that community at the farm of Reg’s parents. While living and working there Edna and Reg became parents of their daughter, Diane and their son, Dean.

In 1966 Edna and Reg moved with their two children to north of Cochrane where they took up raising cattle in a cow calf operation. They soon became recognized for producing top quality beef animals. Additional to being a supportive wife, Edna excelled in housewife tasks and shared with Reg outside chores normal to a ranching business. Edna was community minded as well. While a member of the Lochend Ladies she canvassed for many years to raise money for cancer research.

After many years of active life and enjoying a few years of well deserved retirement Edna’s health weakened until her passing. She is survived by Reg, her husband of seventy three years, her children, Diane and Dean, her grandchildren, Laura, Cameron, Sayla, Jenny, and Jacob and by eleven great-grandchildren: Wacey, Gunnar, Willow, Cree, Edgar, Felix, Stella, Tristan, Holly, Hanna, and Freya.

Called Nana by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren Edna was much loved by her family and many friends. We shall miss her greatly. May she rest in peace.

Funeral service is to be held Monday April 24, 2023 at 1:00 pm at The Springbank United Church (250011 Range Rd 33 Calgary, Alberta).

Edna made the world a little brighter. Always that lovely smile, and so much fun. Fond memories of our bus trips to the States and visiting with her after they moved to the lodge. She will be missed.
