MOYNIHAN, Ronald George “Ron”

1945 – 2023

Ron was born in Lethbridge in 1945 to Dr. Irvin W. and Dorothy (Hardy) Moynihan and passed away on April 11, 2023. In his boyhood he lived in Vancouver, Ottawa and Calgary. Ron graduated from the University of Calgary with a BSc in Chemical Engineering. His work took him to many parts of the world which he and Margaret felt fortunate to see.

For many years Ron was a valued member of Holy Nativity Anglican Church and made many contributions to the life of the parish and the Anglican diocese of Calgary. Throughout his life Ron’s faith was strong and deeply held.

His smile lit up his face when he would start to spin a tale – often liberally seasoned with his unique brand of humour and always drawn from his bottomless well of random knowledge. Ron was a long time member of the Calgary Philatelic Society, a devotee of the British Roadster, a dedicated learner of military history and geography, and an optimistic golfer. Ron’s eclectic endless curiosity remains with us all.

Ron is survived by his wife Margaret (Morgan) Moynihan, his daughters Janet Moynihan (Yvette Claveau) and Susan (Robin) Harder and three treasured grandchildren (The GBHGroup) Georgia Harder, Ben Claveau and Henry Harder. He will be missed by many members of the Moynihan, Hardy, Morgan, Harder and Claveau families.

Ron was predeceased by his much loved parents, and his dear sister Leslie (Moynihan) Rathbone.

He was a good man. May he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.

Please note location: A service will be held at St Peters Anglican Church, 903 75 Ave S.W. Calgary, Tuesday, April 18th at 2:00pm – the Reverend Jagdutt Singh officiating.

I am so sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. I always enjoyed my time spent with him and all of you. He was a joy to be around and he will be missed. He loved life and his family so much. Some of my favourite family memories are of my Grandpa’s 70th birthday and my Dad’s 75th (Ron gave a wonderful speech). What a treat it was to all be together in celebration.

    Marg and family,

We read the obituary for Ron with great sadness. Ron was truly a good man. What a privilege it was to have collaborated and worshipped with him at Holy Nat. We remember so many happy times together, at Holy Nativity and a visit or two to Tie Lake. In the words of Ian Tyson’s song These Friends Of Mine: “by all these roads, my friend, we’ve traveled down, I’m a better man for just the knowin’ of you”.

    Farewell, Ron, and Godspeed.
