MILLER, Douglas John

April 04, 1944 – January 29, 2017

We are saddened to announce that our beloved Doug passed away in Cochrane, AB at the age of 72.

Doug was known for his sense of humor and bringing a smile to people’s faces. He was very generous, always willing to lend a helping hand and was loved by many.

He was an adventurous spirit, enjoying travelling, camping, hiking, skiing, and having a good time with friends and family. His great love was horses and riding in the backcountry. When his mobility became limited he enjoyed flying remote control helicopters. Doug achieved his dream of owning land in the country and building a house, barn, and corral for his horses. Graduating from SAIT, he had a long career as an Electrician and was a member of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).

Doug will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Joanne; his daughter Stephanie Miller and her daughters Elizabeth and Marguerite of Burnaby, BC; his daughter Jeannine Miller (Andrew Parnell) and their children Zoey and Maxwell of Port Moody, BC; his sister Isabella “Ella” Scalise and brother-in-law Sam of Calgary, AB; as well as two sisters-in-law and six nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt thanks for the care Doug received at Bow Crest Care Centre in Calgary where he spent most of the last two years and where he made many friends. Thank you also to the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane where he was made comfortable in his final days.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse (101 Ranche House Rd, Cochrane, AB) on Saturday February 18th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org or ph: 1-800-708-7644.

We shall be thinking of Doug and all who will be attending his Celebration of Life on the 18th February.

With lots of love Ian, Margaret and family

Sandra and Ronnie have very happy memories of our two trips to Canada.
In 2005 staying at your home outside Cochrane. Visiting the YA HA TINDA Ranch.
Returned in 2009 with Nicola on this visit. The five of us went to the Jasper area where we walked
    in fantastic scenery.
