MILES, Lorraine Joy (nee Allan)
November 1, 1950 – December 21, 2020
Lorraine died peacefully at home with her family, after a brief battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Muriel and William Allan, and two of her brothers, Bill and Bob. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bob; her daughter Lisa (Steve) Gilchrist; her son Robbie Miles; and two wonderful granddaughters, Bree and Macy. She is also survived by her brother Dick (Pat); her sisters-in-law, Joy and Val; her cousin Jim Townend (Linda); and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.
After working in the Provincial Court for 30 years, Lorraine turned to volunteer work, her favourite was coaching with Special Olympics, a commitment she loved.
Lorraine was a very caring, kind person and made lifelong friends wherever she went.
Lorraine was taken from us too quickly but her memory will last forever by all those who knew her.
A time to celebrate Lorraine’s life will take place when we are able to meet and be together. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics Calgary (www.specialolympicscalgary.ca)
Arrangements by Lawrence (Larry) Slywka, Cochrane Country Funeral Home.

It’s been a month since Lorraine passed away, and I’m still in disbelief that she is no longer with us. Lorraine was the sweetest, most positive caring person I’ve ever known, and we are all going to miss her terribly. She was like a sister to me, and my thoughts are with Bob, Robbie, Lisa, Steve , Bree and Macy as you deal with your grief. We will all have many special memories of our times with Lorraine, and of her smiling face and beautiful personality. She was definitely one of a kind!
Love, Joy
Dear Bob, Robbie, Lisa and Steve,
I will cherish and remember the time spent with gentle, kind, compassionate and friendly Lorraine. Her middle name “Joy’ exemplifies her energetic spirit. I shared many hours with Lorraine and Robbie (and Bob) at Special Olympics functions, especially curling events over the many years of coaching. Her smile and affectionate laugh always lit up any area she entered. I extend sympathy and condolences.
With sympathy,
Masaye Tanaka SO curling coach
I’m so sorry to hear of Lorraine’s passing, as I envision her as the vibrant girl and young woman of my memories, as we grew up together in the community of Ramsay. Lorraine sat in front of me in Junior High and was very kind while I wore a huge bandage on my face to treat an infected pimple (you can imagine how embarrassing THAT was for a teenager!). We honour her memory best by embodying her best qualities. Smile and treat everyone you meet with kindness.
