MENTZELOPOULOS, Nicholaos “Nick”

December 23, 1949 – October 16, 2018

Nick died suddenly in his home on Tuesday October 16th from a cardiac death.

Nicholaos Mentzelopoulos was born in Patras Greece on December 23 rd to Athanasios and Maria Mentzelopoulos. His early years were spent in Patras, but Nick spent the majority of his life in Canada.

Nick was artistic and had a keen mind that explored and enabled him to enjoy some of life’s complex beauties. For example, he spent many years studying and observing the stars. His passion for astronomy led him  even to creating an observatory in his own back yard. However his deepest and truest passion was music. He was a self taught accomplished drummer that contributed to many local bands in Alberta and British Columbia.

He was a willing and generous friend to many and will be missed by all of us!

Nick is survived by his son Joseph, Joseph’s mother Vickie, his sisters Sophia, Georgia and Katina, brothers Kostas and Anastasios, and many nephews and nieces.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Nick and I went to high school together and played drums at the army cadet camp shooting range in Vernon which we rented monthly. Nick made pizzas and road a Honda motorcyle and a Camero Z28. Both went very fast, just like Nick did. I am so sad to to just find out that he passed.
