My name is Marna Irwin of Banff, and I am the daughterinlaw of Paul ad Elizabeth Irwin who used to farm at Airdrie where Allen worked for many years. Paul and Elizabeth are both deceased and my Husband Arlen also. However, I remember Allen so well, and how my family regarded him of such a man of hard work and so reliable. I would just like to give my condolences to the family, and let them know I was shocked to see the announcement of Allen and Stella’s death in the Outlook Magazine which services Banff and Canmore area.

A caring shoulder, a willing ear, advice when requested, cups of tea, noise, laughter, tears, stories galore, kids, chaos, runny noses, happiness, joy, the VW van, places to go, adventures to be had, everyone welcome and all children loved; and all of this was Stella, and Allen; Allen loved it all in his so steady and calm way, you could tell by the twinkle in his eyes and his beautiful smile. So many lives touched in such positive ways, I was privileged to have known them both.

Stella was the first strong woman in my life. She set an example to her daughters and to others in the 1950-60’s when strong independent women were rare. I was blessed to have her and her family in my early years when I so needed guidance. My love to Holly, Anne and their families.

Just wanted to send condolences on behalf of all the Van Norman’s – Stella and Al lived across from us on Russet Road in Calgary when we were all kids. Stella used to babysit some of us and I know she and Mom (now deceased) were good friends for many years. Richard remembers when he lived with them out near Balzac for a short time and has fond memories of both Stella and Al who were such kind and caring people.

Feeling sad to hear of the passing of Al so soon after Stella, a wonderful couple that truly
complimented each other, she so full of energy and he the calming influence.
Stella played a huge part in my raising of our son Daron as a tiny baby. I was a very nervous
new mother and not having ever babysat and no mother to call upon, I could not bring myself to
bathe Daron in a tub ( only sponge bathed him) until Stella came to the rescue and spent time with me until I was comfortable enough to do it myself, does not sound huge but to me it was and I have never forgotten it. Always enjoyed her love of life and the people in it and was amazed at all the years Al and Stella spent helping children in need. I know there is a special place for them in heaven.
“Those we love don’t go away,
    They walk beside us everyday,
    Unseen, Unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, and very dear”
Thinking of Anne, Holly, Shawna and Families on Sunday at the Celebration of Life, sorry not to
be there to hold your hand or give big hugs! Albert, Terry & Family

    My sincere condolences to everyone.

I met Stella and Al while working with Karen and Randy way back, when they lived in Exshaw. Not knowing many people in the Bow Valley at the time, they invited me to their home on several occasions. They truly made me feel completely welcome and at home. This also gave me the opportunity to see how amazing they were and how their love spread and grew along with their family.

Such a wonderful wonderful caring and selfless couple who will be sadly missed by so many.

    God Bless
    Shelley Gregorash
