LUPYCZUK, Stephan

May 4, 1927 – February 5, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather Steve.  He was born in Leszczance, Ukraine to Wasyl and Paraska Lupijosuk.  Steve left home and travelled to Germany in search of a better life.  From there he immigrated to Canada, landing in Halifax and moved west to set down roots in Calgary.  He married the love of his life Angela in 1950 and together they worked side by side on his many business ventures, including owning and operating Charm Cleaners & Tailors. Steve ended his career as the Tailor for the City of Calgary Fire Department.

Steve was always a very sociable person and could not go anywhere without running into someone he knew socially or through his businesses.  Steve’s family was all important to him and he always loved to get together with them for drinks, conversation and a game of dice.

Steve was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years Angela and 2 siblings.  He is survived by his son Bill (Carol), their children Keri (Andrew) and Lindsay, his daughter Helen (Ken), their children Curtis (Holly) and Garret, great grandchildren Addison, Lucas, Sierra and Samantha, other family members in Canada and the Ukraine and many good friends including Marjorie Stooshinoff and Hellar Palamar.

A private funeral service will be held with the Father Roman Planchak officiating.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Bethany Calgary for their kind and compassionate care of Steve.

Bill, Carol and family/Helen, Ken and family. We were saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Steve. We have so many fond memories of Uncle Steve. So many great vacations, golf tournaments and family gatherings. He truly was the life of the party. When he became a great uncle to our children, he was so proud and couldn’t wait to chase them around the yard with hose, or just have a conversation with them when they were older. He never missed an opportunity to attend a sporting event, and my kids faces would light up when they saw him in the stands. He was always a kid at heart and we always had fun. Rest in peace Uncle Steve…gone but NEVER forgotten.
All our love, Dave, Connie, Robbie and Megan Hutchison

Our sincere condolences to the Lupyczuk Family on the passing of Steve. He made us look good in our altered uniforms as our Fire Department Tailor from July 1981 to September 1991. He went out of his way to help some of us like me that were allergic to wool in our dress uniform pants, so he lined a pair for us in polyester! That’s the kind of man he was.

Our deepest sympathies to Bill, Carol, Helen, Ken and their families. We will dearly miss Uncle Steve. I have many fond memories of camping/fishing trips and spending weekend sleep-overs with my Godparents (thank you Helen for leaving all your toys for us). Brian always remembers the first time he met the extended family at one of the many dinners hosted at their house because Uncle Steve saved him from the interrogation by Bill, Ken, Uncle Eric and Uncle Adrian. We will cherish the memories we got to make with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Lots of love to you all.

Sorry to hear about Steve. His tailoring of CFD uniforms was amazing. I especially remember him talking about the ‘Hat Stretcher’ for all those rising in the ranks!
