LOGAN, Donald Kenneth

December 17, 1952 – March 15, 2022

Don “Ace” Logan, cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, surrounded by those he loved after a short, courageous battle with Cancer. Husband to Vicki Jefferson, father to Don (Andria) and James (Desi) and “Poppy” to Liam and Rebel. He will be missed by all, especially his fur baby Bailey.

Born December 17, 1952 in Halifax NS, to Roy Logan and Cornelia (Dorey) Logan. Survived by sisters Heather (Woody) and Lana (Bert), brother Wayne (Kim), brother-in-law Ron Jefferson (Val), and sister-in-law Jackie Logan. He was proud of all his nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law and brother Roy.

Rain or shine, he could be found at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Stewiacke NS, a member every year since the course had opened in 1997. Summer of 2001 he had some luck, making 3 hole-in-ones in one week.

This Maritimer was reinvigorated after moving to Alberta to be near grandkids. Even as the Cancer took its toll, he dedicated his last summer to golfing daily with Liam, playing over 200 rounds at new home club, Cochrane Golf Course. He insistently found the energy to rack up birdies and outdrive his son Don. He left an impression on everyone with his patience, kindness, focus and passion for the sport.

A lifelong athlete – that guy who was annoyingly good at everything including hockey pools, for which he loved researching and preparing handwritten statistics. He may have set the land speed record for the drive from Halifax to Toronto. A Chicago Blackhawks fan since childhood, a wish came true when he recently saw them play the Flames at the Calgary Saddledome.

During Don’s life he conquered many health struggles, never giving up – many thought he had more lives than a cat. He believed in the power of positivity, saying “there’s no point in doing anything if you’re not going to try to be the best at it”. Commiserators have noted that he always accepted others as themselves, loved meeting new people and always saw them for their best qualities. If you went to a Lower Sackville or Bedford flea market in the 90s you probably had a long chat with him, his woodwork and custom furniture designed and built with his sons are likely still in hundreds of homes.

A dedicated father favouring academics over sports, was proud both sons reached collegiate levels in their chosen sports and academic and professional success in their chosen fields. He was also able to attend James’ wedding just a few days before he passed.

Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society cancer.ca, or Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada crohnsandcolitis.ca. Thanks to the Foothills and Cochrane Palliative teams, and Dr. Eglee Gimon, Richelle Forest RN. and Dr. Meghan Elkink for the amazing care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 18th from 1 – 4 pm at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia.

Vicki and family….my deepest condolences. I had the pleasure of playing much golf with Don here at Fox Hollow. Such a wonderful person with a no quit attitude. He was in the minds of many of us when he moved out west and now in our hearts. Thank you Don for some great rounds of golf and may you rest in peace.

Early or late, it did not matter what time I went to play Fox Hollow because Don would be on the course somewhere. I always looked forward to his big goofy smile and some “witty” remark about his game or mine. He lived his life to the fullest that is for sure. My deepest condolences.

    Dear Vicki, Heather and Family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your precious husband and brother….far too soon in his life. It does indeed sound like he brought such joy into your lives. I am writing to you in an attempt to make contact with my dear former student, Heather, who I taught at Chebucto Heights School in Halifax many years ago. The Logan family brings back such fond memories of an incredibly supportive family. If, dear Heather, you would contact me via the e-mail I left, I would be so grateful and warmed to hear from you. In the meantime, please accept virtual hugs and my warmest thoughts during this sad time in your lives.
    Much love, Helen
